Who is this course for?

This training package is for individuals in organisations and voluntary groups who work with children and young people, families or adults who may be parents and/or carers, in York, to give a basic awareness of issues in relation to safeguarding children. 


Further training

Depending on your role, this may be the only level of training you need, although some people will need further training. It is recommended that you repeat this course every 3 years or earlier if needed. The content will be updated as necessary to take into account of local and national policy changes.

What will I learn?

By the end of this course you will:
• Be aware of the signs and indicators of possible abuse and neglect.
• Be aware of your own responsibilities if you have concerns about a child or young person.
• Know how to make a referral to Children's Social Care if you have concerns about a child or young person.


What does the course cover?

This course is broken into four sections covering:
• What is child abuse?
• Signs and indicators of abuse and neglect
• What to do in response to concerns
• Guidelines for good practice


How do I access the course?

If you’ve not previously created a login or you created a login prior to September 2017, you’ll need to sign up for a new login.  The green sign up link can be found underneath the signing in box. Once you’ve received your login you can access the course. 


How do I access my certificate?

At the end of the course, you’ll be able to see whether you have passed or failed.  If you have passed there will be the option to view your certificate of completion as a pdf for printing or saving.  Please note that the certificate indicates you have completed the course, rather than being a certificate of qualification.
