Take Over Week

Jon Stonehouse interviewed for Take Over Week

In November 34 children and young people took on some of the most important jobs in the city as part of the national ‘Takeover’ campaign. Children and young people in care, and those who have recently left care, were able to experience a role of their choice within the council and partners. The opportunities "taken over" included:

  • Interviewing Jon Stonehouse, Howard Lovelady and Judy Kent
  • Going "the beat" with the police around York city centre
  • Shadowing a member of the web team
  • Active sports and leisure
  • Social workers
  • Integrated working training
  • Graphic design

Feedback from young people and practitioners has been fantastic. Young people particularly enjoyed the chance to meet with practitioners and understand more about their work and this has helped them think about their own careers and ambitions. Plans are underway to start a year round buddying scheme that connects children in care with people in career roles they are interested in learning more about. Further details of the new buddying scheme will be announced in early 2015. Thank you to all young people and pracitioners that took part in Take Over Week and made it a success.
