Parents and carers often have lots of questions about schools, for example how to apply for a place, home to school transport, school meals, uniforms and more.

School Services - City of York Council

The School Services team at the council provide lots of helpful information at www.york.gov.uk/schools and you are able to apply for a school place online at www.york.gov.uk/parentportal. If you would like to contact the team with any query related to schools please email education@york.gov.uk or call 01904 551554.  If the team are unable to help with your query they will be able to put you in contact with someone who can.

Disability and additional needs

York's Local Offer has lots of helpful information to see what disability services are available in their area and how to access them. You will find lots of helpful information about school and disabled children in the Local Offer section.

Compare schools performance

The Department for Education provides and online tool to help parents find and compare local schools’ performance. For the first time on the Department's website, parents can:

  • select the schools that interest them and compare performance side by side
  • view a full list of schools in England and filter to find schools with similar characteristics
  • use an interactive map to view local, regional and national averages for school performance
